Kayseri High School National
Struggle Museum
The first floor of the school building, built for the Derece-i Ula Mektebi Mülkiye İdadisi, was completed in 1903. In 1915, the school was converted into a “Sultani” and an additional floor was built in 1915- 1916. The entrance of the building, which shows a rectangular plan protruding from the corners in the east-west direction, is provided by the door opening to the center of the south facade. In front of the door, the portico arrangement formed by four independent columns and arches thrown to the capitals embedded in the wall dominates the facade. This portico arrangement with three window openings at the top is finished with a triangular pediment.
The school, which was one of the few sultanates in the Ottoman Empire and played an important role in the history of the National Struggle, could not graduate in the 1920-1921 academic year because all the senior students were martyred in the Sakarya War. In 1923, the name of the school was changed to “High School” and it has had a special place in Turkish education life with its level of education and successful graduates. The historical registered building of the school, which trained two Presidents, now serves as the “National Struggle Museum”, where Kayseri’s contributions to the national struggle are also explained.
