Koramaz Valley
Koramaz Valley is one of Turkey’s most special valleys where natural and cultural heritage meets historical richness. Located 20 km northeast of Kayseri city center, the valley curves from east to west and is approximately 12 km long. There are seven settlements still in use in the Koramaz Valley. These settlements, from east to west, are as follows: Büyük Bürüngüz, Subaşı, Küçük Bürüngüz, Ağırnas, Turan, Vekse, and Bağpınar. In these settlements, a common tangible and intangible cultural heritage and natural riches, which are known to have a history of thousands of years, are still waiting to welcome their guests.
In the Koramaz Valley, uninterrupted life for thousands of years has brought with it a unique cultural development. There are rock-carved structures in and around all villages. These rock-carved structures have been used continuously over time for functions such as shelter, worship, and production. Another historically important place is Ağırnas, which also contains the land where Mimar Sinan was born and grew up. Mimar Sinan House awaits its visitors here. In addition, Kayırhanı, which was home to Atatürk during the Alphabet Revolution, is also located in this valley. The valley was included in the Tentative List of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO in 2020 with its diverse cultural assets and natural beauty.
